Oil on canvas.
I wanted to capture the delicate nature females embody. You notice a woman with fragile lace and a shiny pearl earring when you first see the portrait. She looks pretty, but she makes the viewer question what she is about to say with her parted lips. A large linen turban covers and shields her innermost thoughts and desires. Like most women, we are forced to cover a part of our inner self to be accepted by society. We are more harshly judged, and we tend to adorn ourselves with feminine accessories to soften our appearances. Her turban's harshed and wide knitted linen signifies our tougher skin that hides a part we are not always willing to reveal. As she glances over her shoulder, she shares a hint at her inner struggles. Her mouth is parted as she is about to tell what she wants the world to see but is she brave enough to divulge? Like the baroque pearl in her ear, we are unique, and we are not perfectly made and rounded.
